Where's It From Wednesday: The Sundial

The Ingleside Terrace Sundial:
As someone who was born and raised in San Francisco, I had NEVER heard about the sundial until i came across it by mistake while doing research online.

Built 1913, this sundial was the worlds largest sundial at the time it was built.  According to outsidelands.org, there’s folklore that the sundial was a left over structure from the Ingleside Race Track which operated from 1895 - 1905.  However, according to sfgate.com, the sundial was actually a structure built as a, “come-on to the new Ingleside Terrace development.”

This hidden treasure is a beautiful structure surrounded by grass landscaping, with paths that lead to columns topped by urns decorated with human figures and filled with greenery.  The columns and urns are surrounded by benches that allow you to sit and enjoy your surroundings.

During my visit to the structure on a sunny Saturday afternoon, NO ONE visited the dial.  If you want to visit a serene space to read a book, meditate or just gather your thoughts, please give this space a visit.
